22m2 is a shop and community space located in Brussels, established by ethnographers Lucia Nimcova and David Petras. It serves as the home base for their foundation for sustainable research, nohami.com.

“We established this space to share the results of our long-term audiovisual field research conducted in the Carpathian Mountains. One section of the space features a shop that offers handmade products created by people we collaborate with for years.

We have documented the lives and music of elderly women living in remote mountain regions of Ukraine, Slovakia, and Romania. This generation has witnessed and survived numerous wars, including the ongoing conflict with Russia. Our collection of photos, recordings, and films preserve their stories, which are not limited to their specific region but resonate universally.

The urgency to share the knowledge we've gathered from our fieldwork has led us to create this space. We believe our ethnographic research, which has unearthed many survival techniques and tools, should be accessible to a broader audience.

Especially in today's challenging times, they help us understand the existential aspect of music and culture. We can learn from their pure and honest poetics. We present our art worldwide through site specific installations and performances, using photography, sound, video and physical releases.

22m2 is a place to meet and continue our work.”
